New Product release from Furukawa Electric Co the Fitel S123 M12 Mass fusion splicer
Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (FEC) has announced the launch of the latest FITEL brand Hand-held Fusion Splicer S123M8 and S123M12, as the successor to S122M8 and S122M12 respectively. S123M8 has the capacity to splice from 1 to maximum 8-ribbon fiber while S123M12 can splice from 1 to maximum 12-ribbon fiber.
With its low profile and IP-52 rated super rugged body, the FITEL S123 series fusion splicer offers speedy operation in every splicing field, FTTx, LAN, backbone or long-haul installations. Large battery capacity makes it possible to perform 70 cycles for S123C/M4 with a single battery, and 160 cycles for S123M8/M12 with two batteries. Combining portability, power flexibility and field ruggedness, the S123 delivers fast and consistent splicing with outstanding mobility and extreme ease-of-use.

Call us if you would like to have a demo.
Regarding so called “cheap, fast service” of fusion splicers
We are getting regular feedback from clients that have used “non-authorized” service centers for splicer repairs and service. The following are points worth noting:
1/ Splicers that we have reviewed after being serviced by an unauthorized service center based in Victoria showed the following issues:
a/ incorrect diagnosis of issues found
b/ incorrect parameters loading OR incorrect setting of splicer’s Parameters
c/ insufficient testing
d/ parts unnecessarily replaced
e/ un checked firmware updates OR firmware updates are not the latest version and are not properly uploaded with the correct settings
2/ Unauthorized service centers neither have access to support from the manufacturer, Furukawa Electric Co., nor do they have access to manufacturer-approved & genuine spares, original firmware and procedures, which often leaves them experimenting at your expense on your machine.
3/ Non-genuine parts used by unauthorized service centers result in reduced equipment performance - this applies to Electrodes, cleaver blades and items that are not manufacturer-approved.
4/ Unauthorized service centers actively chase machines to cannibalize for parts, so you are never sure if you are getting non-genuine or second- hand parts on your machine.
In summary, for many clients, what had looked cheap and fast on the surface, has resulted in expensive and unsatisfactory repairs.
Don’t risk your equipment & investment with an unauthorized service center.
AusOptic International is the sole importer and distributor for Furukawa Electric Co of Fitel Fusion splicers and accessories. AusOptic Int. (Syd) and Optical Fibre Systems (Qld) are the only two Authorized services centers in the region (Australia, NZ, NC, PNG, Fiji and Islands).
“Others make claims, We deliver.”

SUPERCOMM BOOTH # 2820
Georgia Public Web Selects Optelian DWDM Network
Ottawa, ON/Marietta, GA - October 22, 2009 -
Optelian, a trusted designer and manufacturer of optical transport systems, today announced that Georgia Public Web has deployed a 40-channel, long-haul, multi-node, inter-state DWDM network utilizing Optelian’s LightGAIN optical transport system.
Georgia Public Web (GPW), a non-profit facilities-based company providing internet access and other telecommunications services to communities, carriers, and customers throughout Georgia, had requirements to upgrade a large multi-node CWDM network to a higher capacity DWDM network. After considering several vendors as well as the incumbent, GPW chose Optelian for their highly modular, flexible DWDM solutions.
“Optelian has an excellent reputation for providing trouble-free optical transport systems and for providing comprehensive support before, during, and after the sale,” said Jim Hendrickson, VP and CTO at GPW. “We spoke with people at Tier 1 and Tier 2 carriers who use Optelian products. Based on their recommendations, we felt the superior quality of Optelian systems and especially their ability to deliver on time was ideal for our requirements. It was mission critical for us to deploy a highly-reliable system that could be installed expeditiously.”
This 40-channel DWDM network spans over 1,400 km and has 29 nodes. The system provides for add/drop and regeneration capabilities. GPW is taking full advantage of LightGAIN’s modular architecture. Plug and play transponders, amplifiers, dispersion compensation, and DWDM modules made it very easy to support the unique service and optical requirements at each site. Optelian’s any-rate 2.7Gb/s and 10Gb/s tunable transponders provide significant cost savings for sparing requirements.
“We are extremely pleased to be working with a highly respected service provider like GPW,” said Dave Mills, VP Sales at Optelian. “GPW has built a world class optical transport network that delivers a wide range of services throughout Georgia and North Florida. The LightGAIN platform will allow GPW to seamlessly and non-disruptively scale future services as their customers’ demands increase.”
“The service we received from Optelian was outstanding,” commented Mr. Hendrickson. “We had two lengthy segments in the network that were hot cutovers. Together with Optelian, we were able to turn the routes up without any service impacting outages and adhere to our committed service dates. We received outstanding technical support from Optelian from day one. They have a can-do attitude and work hard to ensure that the job is done right, and on time.”
Optelian will be displaying its LightGAIN optical transport system in booth 2820 during SUPERCOMM 2009 at McCormick Place in Chicago, October 21-23, 2009.

MEGLADON MANUFACTURING GROUP, LTD. "MASTERS THE MEASUREMENT" OF APC CONNECTORS WITH NORLAND PRODUCTS CC 6000
________________________________________________
br>
NORLAND PRODUCTSMonday, September 14, 2009
Cranbury, NJ- - Megladon Mfg has made another momentous step towards improving the quality and performance of Angle Polished Connectors (APC). By utilizing the HLC termination process and Interferometric equipment from Norland Products Inc., Megladon has drastically increased their ability to make accurate and repeatable APC geometrical measurements. Historically, interferometers have only been able to measure the apex offset of APC connectors within +/-10um of accuracy. Due to the nature of the “floating ferrule” and ferrule movement found in the SC APC connectors, it has been difficult to get good reproducibility and accurate results when taking these measurements. The fiber industry has to date not given the issue much attention, but as our dependency on APC cables increases, it is necessary to address how this issue can deteriorate performance. “APC connectors should provide exceptional back reflection performance, but if the geometry is at the edge of the specification, high bandwidth transmission will suffer,” says Daniel Hogberg, Product Group Supervisor for Megladon Mfg. “It is necessary to accurately measure APC connectors to ensure that cables are being manufactured to the appropriate specification, and then to optimize performance.” Not all interferometers have been able to “master the measurement” and establish a solid point of reference. “At Norland Products, we have spent many hours developing our CC6000 interferometric system to help us overcome this difficulty,” says Neal Wagman, Sales Manager for Norland Products. “Our development has enabled us measure the SC/APC connector quickly, accurately, and very inexpensively.” Norland Product’s SC APC mount allows for exceptional control in measuring SC APC connectors, and has allowed Megladon Mfg. to implement tighter controls within its manufacturing process. The new process has enabled measurements with +/-5um of accuracy, and helps Megladon continue setting new standards in back reflection performance and building the best performing APC connectors in the marketplace with ScratchGuard™ HLC technology .
Megladon Manufacturing Group, Ltd., a subsidiary of TyRex Group Ltd. ®, is recognized as a leader in the fiber optic marketplace. Founded in 1997, Megladon made it their mission to provide customers with fiber optic products that far exceed industry standards. As technology innovators, Megladon created the ScratchGuard™ HLC (Hardened Lens Contact) termination, which has changed the market and taken it to the next level.
For additional information on Megladon and their patented processes please visit the company’s website at www.megladonmfg.com or respond by email to scratchguard@megladonmfg.com . For more information concerning Norland Products Interferometric portfolio, please contact Neal Wagman at nwagman@norlandprod.com or www.norlandproducts.com .
Norland Products has taken the knowledge gained from over 20 years of interferometric measuring experience to produce the first low cost, automated, non-contact interferometer for fiber optics .

The Norland Connect-Chek ® CC6000 automatically and precisely measures radius of curvature, apex offset of polish, and fiber undercut or protrusion on any PC or APC single fiber connector.
The breakthrough technology used in the CC6000 is unlike any other system on the market today and now allows interferometric connector analysis to be affordable to all users.
